Fashion Friday: New York Fashion Week

The most memorable moments of New York Fashion Week

  1. See Now Buy Now: Burberry, Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, and Topshop Unique all implemented a new idea that allows the items shown in the fashion show to be bought that day or the next.  Generally, the items modeled during fashion week are not sold until six months later, after they’ve been made, photographed, and stocked in stores.  This is an amazing concept because it allows the Fall 2016 collections to be purchased and worn in Fall 2016 instead of next fall.  This caters to newer generations because they expect things in an instant and at the tips of their fingers.
  2. TommyxGigi Collection: Gigi Hadid partnered with Tommy Hilfiger to co-design a line that was reflective of Hadid and Hilfiger’s styles combined. The fashion show was held at Pier 16 in New York City, it featured carnival rides, temporary tattoos, and cotton candy machines.  Doutzen Kroes, Kris Jenner, and Taylor Swift were all there to support Hadid as she modeled her line. Pieces of the collection included: sailor jackets, leather pants, fringe scarves, oversized hoodies, and thigh-high stockings. All of these items are available for purchase at usa.tommy.com

  3.  Marc Jacobs: The Marc Jacobs runway featured big name models on repeat. Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima, Jourdan Dunn, as well as Bella and Gigi Hadid.

They wore pastel dreadlocks twisted into top knots, chunky platform heels, and lots of shimmer. It was a refreshing reminder that fashion is about having fun and that there are no rules.

  4.  Yeezy Season 4: It’s an understatement to say that Kanye West’s fashion show was a disaster. The show was held on the grounds of an old smallpox hospital and attendees were shuttled there on buses. Unfortunately, the show was pushed back two hours from its original start time because West got caught in a fender bender. So, models and attendees were forced to wait in the boiling sun; one model fainted. After he arrived models teetered and stumbled down the runway due to terribly made stilettos.
